Charlie went into a coma before he died

In February 2011, when riots spread to most of the Arab world, massive political protests against Qaddafi's regime sparked a civil war between revolutionaries and loyalists. In March, an international coalition began carrying out air strikes against Qaddafi's camp under the auspices of a UN Security Council resolution. On October 20, the Libyan interim government announced that Qaddafi had died after being arrested near his hometown in Sirte.

Reported by BBC History, "King of film" (aristocratic title in 1975) died at 04.00 in his home, Corsier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland. He left his wife Oona, the daughter of the late screenwriter Eugene O'Neill, and seven of eight children.

Charlie went into a coma before he died. A family spokesman said the actor who was born on April 16, 1889 was buried in a private family ceremony in two days.

As an actor, writer, director, producer, composer and choreographer he left an indelible legacy on 80 films including favorites of The Gold Rush, City Lights, and Limelight. Charlie is a memorable figure with his distinctive black mustache, tuxedo suit, magician hat, and wooden sticks that he often carries.

From his screen debut in 1914, to his last film which was finished in 1967, Charlie was thought to have helped create a modern film. He rose from humble beginnings to become one of the highest paid movie stars.
